Abstract
The article is related with the emergence and evolution of the Shia sect in the Indian subcontinent. The paper looked at the matter in historical perspective discussing the infiltration of the early Muslim conquerors that started from the period of Hazrat Usman, the third caliph. There were Shia preachers who came along with these conquerors and settled in India. They propagated their sect in different parts of the subcontinent. The region from which the Shia sect came to India was Yemen. The study focuses on the patterns, teachings and ideas of different Shia preachers who played significant roles in the introduction and expansion of the Shia sect. The circumstances that witnessed the extension or Shiaism in the north-western border have also been dealt in detail in the article. At the end the paper briefly explains the role of the anti-Shia Ulema in opposing the expansion of the sect in various areas.
